Queenstown MallMalls in larger cities are open seven days a week. Other stores and shops are generally  open from 0900hrs to 05.30hrs.Mon-Fri with at least one late night until 0900hrs (usually Fri) and Sat & Sun morning. There are many duty free shopping centers in the cities but goods must be collected at the airport of departure. Shopping specialties include sheepskin, Kauri wood paua shell products, pure natural honey, award-winning wines, fruit wines, dried flowers, lanolin skin products, New Zealand & Maori arts & crafts, feijoa and Kiwifruits, greenstone, fibre & glass arts, Sheep from New Zealand's high country runs and lush green pastures provide sheepskins for a multitude of uses such as floor rugs and car seat covers. There are specialist sheepskin shops in every main centre. New Zealand is making a name for itself in the pottery field. With high-grade clay useable straight from the ground, pottery is competitive in price. Nelson and the Coromandel Peninsula are particularly good places to buy pottery. Superb quality objects d'art crafted from native woods make a unique and authentic gifts. Paua, a brightly coloured greeny-blue shell, can be found in souvenir shops through out the country. Silver and paua earrings, necklaces and rings are unique to New Zealand. The shell when polished makes a beautiful object in its own right. Alongside top international fashion in boutique stores in the main city areas, you will also find New Zealand's own award-winning fashion labels, including Zambesi, NomD, Karen Walker and World. On the west coast, craftspeople are creating beautiful work from another natural resource greenstones (nephrite jade). The Maori have a long tradition of making body ornaments from it, and many of the traditional patterns are still used today. Visit a West Coast factory to see the craftspeople at work and buy a unique gift from New Zealand.

Duty Free Shopping:

Visitors to New Zealand may purchase duty-free goods, which are not subject to local taxes, from airport duty-free shops on arrival and departure. Duty-free stores in downtown Auckland will deliver purchases to aircraft departure gates

Rotorua

Rotorua's downtown shopping district is a provincial hub for a wide suburban and rural population. The emphasis here is on hassle-free shopping in relaxed surroundings. Rotorua boasts some of the best shopping opportunities in the country, particularly in the crafts line. Fletcher Challenge Forests Visitor Centre
The Whakarewarewa Forest recreation area is managed by Fletcher Challenge Forests for your enjoyment. World class running, walking and mountain biking tracks, as well as tranquil picnic areas, are all within five minutes drive of Rotorua. Set amongst magnificent Californian Coastal Redwoods, the Fletcher Challenge Forests' Visitor Centre is the place to find out about the forest and how to access it. There is also a selection of unique giftware handcrafted from native and exotic timber by some of New Zealand's finest woodworkers. The Jade Factory
The Jade Factory is a workshop, where you can watch master carvers create jade carvings and beautiful pieces of jewellery using jade, black pearl and diamonds set in gold and silver. A sophisticated showroom displaying authentic and original works of art is adjacent to the Jade Factory.The hand sculptured carvings are designed in traditional and contemporary styles and incorporate special meanings connected to hope, strength, growth and the family bond. 

The gift centre 
The gift centre sells an extensive range of high quality souvenirs and handcrafted gifts including woollen products, clothing, jewellery, ornaments, New Zealand native wood items. The quality products are sold at reasonable prices. Christchurch

Some superb shopping is available to round up a very satisfying visit to Christchurch. The avid shoppers will enjoy themselves to the hilt. Weekends are dedicated to shoppers with Fridays offering late-night shopping in the downtown and most of the malls open through Saturday and Sunday. New Zealand is very well known for good quality wool, leather and deerskin products, outdoor clothing and equipment. The various shopping malls offer a great variety in products both quality and brand wise. Rugby Gear and designer garments make interesting buys.

The Arts Centre is an interesting shopping venue which opens up the local art market to the visitor and all under one roof. One can pickup some unusual artworks. In-fact during the weekends an Art and Craft Market is organized at the Center.

Riccarton Mall is worth a visit, being the largest on the South Island.

Queenstown
